RiverSkills

Is a training provider targeted at regional NRM/catchment bodies, floodplain and riparian landholders and those landholders and stakeholders of the floodplain as well as regional communities.

RiverSkills has emerged from the development of the training initiative Wetlands.edu (NHT-funded in 2006-2008, www.wetlandsedu.org.au).

 Those training modules offered through RiverSkills are shown below.

It is hoped further modules can be added through the financing of this initiative to address priority current issues such as ‘learning to adapt to climate change’, ‘acid sulfate soils’, and a range of river and riparian zone management issues identified by consultations with the CMAs.

  • Multi-stakeholder management planning;
  • Facilitating the integration of wetlands into individual property management plans;
  • Management models and approaches for important riverine and floodplain wetland habitats;
  • Managing wetlands for multiple-use outcomes (grazing, irrigation and eco-tourism);
  • Management of floodplain wetlands to benefit native fish (and  other) habitat values;
  • Managing carp in floodplain wetlands; and
  • Incentive mechanisms to promote enhanced wetland management
